About Me

Hola! My name is Veronica Otero, your friendly neighborhood flower farmer! I grow and sell specialty cut flowers from my suburban micro-flower farm in Fishers, Indiana. I have lived in Fishers for over 20 years with my husband and 3 beautiful children. I have a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry and work full-time at a large medical device company.

My love affair with flowers began when I was a little girl. Growing up in Northwest Indiana, where winters were long, cloudy, and cold, I always looked forward to the first signs of spring. The vibrant colors of tulips and the intoxicating scents of daffodils were a welcomed sight for sore eyes. I remember the excitement of going to the local nursery with my mom and grandmother to pick out flowers to plant every Mother’s Day. Summer mornings were spent in my grandmother’s garden, watering and tending to her flowers while listening to stories about her childhood and lessons she shared along the way. I remember going on trips to Puerto Rico with her and being in awe of the lush beautiful and colorful landscape which was such a far cry from the cold, harsh winters in Indiana.

After my grandmother passed away, we gathered at the cemetery to bid our final farewell. In that moment, I felt an overwhelming desire to hold onto something tangible, something that would connect me to her even after she was gone. I decided to pluck a rose from the beautiful floral arrangement on her coffin and carefully placed it inside the pages of my bible. As time went by and I moved from Valparaiso to Fishers, the bible ended up packed away and forgotten.

Fast forward to 2020 and the Covid pandemic, I found myself anxious and needing an escape from the madness. So, like many other people, I started decluttering my home. While going through my things, I stumbled upon the Bible I had put away years ago. As I looked through it, I found the dried rose that had been perfectly preserved from many years ago. At that moment, all of the memories with my grandmother in her garden along with the memories of time spent in Puerto Rico, her message to me was loud and clear: to cultivate beauty from wherever I am and to share it with others. With just my passion and determination, I set out to create a beautiful and peaceful sanctuary known as Veronica's Hidden Garden.
